Enlisted 29 September 1915 in Rarotonga. Disembarked at Suez 15 March 1916 and embarked for France from Port Said with the New Zealand Pioneer Battalion. Detached to the New Zealand Tunnelling Company (NZETC) 9 December 1916 to 20 February 1917. Detached to the New Zealand Pioneer Battalion 26 February 1917. Transferred to the Rarotongan Company 14 January 1918. Embarked for Egypt from Marseilles 21 January 1918. Disembarked at Alexandria 4 February 1918. Marched in from Moascar and posted to Training Regiment 5 February 1918. Admitted to hospital at Kantara and Moascar between 22 and 23 August 1918. Discharged to Duty 8 October 1918. Embarked for New Zealand on SS Malta 14 December 1918 and discharged 20 March 1919.
