Additional Information

Arrived in Wellington from Rarotonga on the 25 February 1918, then proceeded by train to Auckland arriving on 27 February 1918. Sailed from Wellington on 13 June 1918 to Sydney with the 30th Maori Reinforcements. They spent a week in Sydney and participated in a patriotic parade before embarking on a vessel with other Australian troops before finally arriving in Egypt on 4 August 1918. Discharged 20 March 1919 after serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force for one year and 33 days. Pte Tuaine, along with other Cook Islanders embarked on the vessel SS Paloona bound for Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Died 18 January 1920 at the age of 28 years in Avarua, Rarotonga. As he was from the outer island of Aitutaki, Pte Tuaine was unable to be returned home to Aitutaki to be buried on his own family land, so he was buried in the Government Registered Crown Land Nikao Cemetery opposite the international airport in Rarotonga.
