Headstone/grave location
Military headstone memorial is located at Takapora, opposite the Aitutaki hospital. Information received from descendent Tina Iro indicates that this soldier is buried with his wife Tarita and son Robert in one grave in front of the Paratrooper Accommodation next to Rino’s Motel, Ureia, Aitutaki, Cook Islands. The headstones were removed from the graves, and the family then took Private Charlie Roi’s military headstone to their home opposite the hospital and erected a memorial.

Enlisted in Rarotonga 1 July 1916. Disembarked at Suez from SS Malwa 27 December 1916. Marched in and posted to Training Units and Depots. Marched out to El Arish 27 January 1917. Posted to Rarotongan Company 31 July 1917. Embarked for New Zealand on SS Malta 14 December 1918 and discharged 20 March 1919 after serving for two years and 255 days.
