Commissioned as an Officer commanding Rarotongan Company 01/01/1917

Formerly a Lance-Corporal in the 9th New Zealand Mounted Rifle Contingent during the Boer War. His occupation was accountant. Joined the 2nd Maori Contingent as a 2nd Lieutenant and embarked with them and proceeded to Egypt. Embarked for New Zealand on SS Willochra 11 April 1916 as Reinforcement Officer and appointed to and embarked with the 2nd Rarotongan Contingent. Arrived Suez 27th of December 1916 and assumed the position of Officer Commanding Rarotongan Company 1 January 1917. Formally transferred from the New Zealand Mounted Rifle Bde Training Regiment and Base Depot in Egypt on 5 November 1917 and on to the separately established Rarotongan Company. Departed Suez via SS Malta 15th of December 1918 and returned to the Cook Islands to discharge troops in Rarotonga.
Awarded a MiD (Mentioned in Despatches) 14 June 1918 for "distinguished and gallant services and devotion to duty". London Gazette 14 June 1918, p7058. Discharged 28th of May 1919.

Died 13 September 1930, in Te Aroha, Waikato, New Zealand, at the age of 50, and was buried in Te Aroha Cemetery, Te Aroha, Waikato, New Zealand
