Enlisted 30 November 1914. Served at Gallipoli from 4 October 1915 to 25 December 1915. Transferred to New Zealand Mounted Signal Troop as Communication Sergeant. Awarded a MiD (Mentioned in Despatches) 15 January 1918. Promoted to Second Lieutenant 25 September 1918 and transferred to Rarotongan Company on 9 October 1918. Returned to New Zealand on SS Malta. Discharged 7 March 1919.
