Additional information
Enlisted 1 July 1916. Arrived in Egypt 27 December 1916 and transferred to New Zealand Mounted Rifle Brigade, El Arish on 12 March 1917. Marched out to Kantara 7 April 1917. Transferred to the Rarotongan Company 23 August 1918. On 4 March 1918 he received an accidental bayonet wound to the head from a comrade. An investigation attached no blame to anyone. Taken to 45th Stationary Hospital and then via the 6th Hospital Train to the 24th Stationary Hospital. From there he was admitted to the New Zealand Aotea Convalescent Home. In October 1917 he strained his back carrying an 8-inch shell at Belah and developed a medical condition that plagued him until discharge as he was declared “no longer fit for military duties as a result of injury”. Returned as an invalid on SS Malta and was discharged 20 March 1919.
