Enlisted 1 July 1916 in Auckland and was employed as a seaman for the Union Steam Ship Co. Ltd. Disembarked from SS Malwa at Suez 27 December 1916 and joined the Rarotongan Company 7 April 1917.
Detached to the 10th Heavy Battery Royal Artillery from 5 October to 9 November 1917. Admitted to 77th Casualty Clearing Station 19 May 1918, then 47th Stationary Hospital, Gaza 23 May 1918 and then to the Aotea Convalescent Home from 21 May 1918 to 28 May 1918. Rejoined Rarotongan Company 2 July 1918. Admitted to 123rd Field Ambulance with pneumonia and malaria and transferred by hospital train to 36th Stationary Hospital Gaza on 25 July 1918 then to the 24th Stationary Hospital, Kantara on 2 August 1918 and to the 27th General Hospital, Abbassia from 2 August 1918. Admitted to the Rest Camp at Port Said from 22 August 1918 to 3 September 1918. Embarked for New Zealand on SS Malta 14 December 1918 and discharged in New Zealand 7 March 1919. He re-enlisted for 'Home Service' in New Zealand Artillery 21 August 1919.

There is a headstone for this soldier on a grave in Rarotonga however it is a case of mistaken identity.
