Enlisted in Rarotonga 12 June 1918 and discharged in New Zealand 12 June 1919. Died of tuberculosis which was contracted while serving with the NZEF.
"Mareto” is spelt incorrectly on his headstone as “Mereto”. This headstone will be replaced by the CWGC at their expense in due course.
Military headstone records age at death as 40, although on enlistment in 1918 in the year prior to his death, his age was recorded as 26.
