Additional information
Enlisted in Rarotonga 24 September 1915. When training with the 1st Contingent he became ill and slipped back to the 2nd Contingent. He was found to be medically unfit for service and was discharged from the 2nd Contingent. On 13 December 1917 he was assessed fit in Rarotonga and this was confirmed in Auckland 12 April 1918. A second enlistment commenced on 12 March 1918. Disembarked in Suez with the 3rd Contingent 4 August 1918. Posted to the Rarotongan Company 18 September 1918. Embarked for New Zealand on SS Malta 14 December 1918 and discharged 20 March 1918.
Name is not recorded on the Roll of Honour board at the RSA, Nikao Rarotonga Cook Islands.
His brother Pte Kakino ARATAI 84578 served in the 4th Rarotongan Contingent.
Surname spelt as ‘Aratia’ on private/civilian headstone.
