Enlisted at Rarotonga 4 February 1918 and at Narrow Neck Military Training Camp 12 March 1918.Initial Cook Islands Rolls had Pte Teau’s named as Atini TEAUITI, with the name TEAU being recorded as per the Malta Roll and NZEF documents. Disembarked at Suez 4 August 1918. Marched in from overseas and posted to Training Regiment in Ismailia 4 August 1918. Posted from Training Regiment to Rarotongan Company 18 September 1918. Discharged 20 March 1919.
Ongokoreiti Teau/Atini Teauiti died of pneumonia 14 December 1919 only six months after his return from war service. He is buried in the Nikao cemetery in Rarotonga. He left behind his wife and four young children. His wife Ngatipi Teau Vaine was from the island of Aitutaki and she received her husband’s war medals 16 March 1930.
Headstone records 'Aged 50' at the time of death however we do not believe this is correct.
