September 1916 travelled to New Zealand to enlist at Narrow Neck Military Training Camp and embarked from Wellington 2 January 1917 via Cape Town to Devonport, UK
27 March 1917. Joined the New Zealand Pioneer Battalion's NZ Engineer Reserve Depot at Boscombe 27 March 1917 and then was posted to 4th (Reserve) Battalion Canterbury Regiment at Sling Clamp 10 August 1917. Left for France 1/9/1917 and joined NZ Maori Pioneer Battalion 14 September 1917. Detached to the Rarotongan Company on 14 January 1918 and embarked for Egypt 21 January 1918 and arrived Alexandra 4 February 1918. Posted to the Rarotongan Company on 15 February 1918. Discharged in New Zealand 7 March 1919 and re-enlisted into New Zealand Medical Corps on the same day.
