Enlisted 1 July 1916 in Rarotonga. Disembarked from SS Malwa at Suez 27 December 1916 and posted to the Rarotongan Company 7 April 1917. Admitted to 24th Stationary Hospital 23 August 1917 and then to 27th General Hospital at Abbassia on 25 August 1917. Rejoined his unit on 9 September 1917. Admitted to the 43rd Stationary Hospital on 15 October 1917 with diarrhoea and on 17 October 1917 was transferred to the 44th Stationary Hospital before being transferred to the 27th General Hospital Abbassia on 22 October 1917. Admitted to the Aotea Convalescent Home from 9 November 1917 to 28 November 1917 and was posted to the NZ Mounted Rifle Bde Training Regiment & Base Depot before being posted back to the Raroton-gan Company 2 December 1917. Embarked on SS Malta 14 December 1918. Discharged 20 March 1919.
