Additional Information
Attested in Rarotonga 4th of February 1918 and enlisted at Narrow Neck Military Training Camp 13 June 1918. Embarked on SS Manuka at Wellington 13 June 1918, disembarked at Suez 4 August 1918 and transferred to the Rarotongan Company on 20 September 1918. Embarked on the SS Malta 14 December 1918 and discharged 20 March 1919. In May 1927 he died after falling from a tree.
In 2019, the Nikao Cemetery Restoration Project was alerted to the headstone of soldier L. Corp Tonga KIRIAU 60767 which was sitting under a tree as the original grave was cleared in the 1970’s to make way for the construction of the Rarotonga International Airport. Nikao Cemetery Restoration Project volunteers built a memorial within the Nikao Cemetery February 2020.
